Living in Central Oregon
Tumalo
Centrally located between Bend and Sisters, this coveted community is especially sought after among equestrians and hobby farmers.
Nestled between Bend and Sisters, Tumalo has become a sought-after location for homebuyers interested in acreage, incredible mountain views, and a slower pace lifestyle.
Those unfamiliar with the area known as Tumalo might assume there’s little to this community beyond its small, quaint downtown, which is located off Highway 20 about 10 miles northwest of Bend.
But there’s a lot to love about Tumalo (which is pronounced Tuhm-uh-low) –- especially for those who value the land. Most Tumalo residents live on acreage outside Tumalo proper. In fact, technically, Tumalo isn’t even a town (it’s a small, unincorporated community of several hundred people).
Because much of this region is zoned Exclusive Farm Use, many parcels here are 20 acres or more, which makes Tumalo a decidedly rural setting, despite the fact that it’s just minutes from Bend. Here, you’ll find a mix of farmers and ranchers, plus horse owners, folks who prefer a little breathing room and those who simply appreciate the breathtakingly scenic setting.
Terrebonne
Home to the famous Smith Rock State Park, a world-class climbing destination.
Terrebonne is an excellent place for those looking for that small-town charm. With only several hundred households, you have an amazing opportunity to really learn who your neighbors are. In a world that’s more and more hung up on virtual connectivity, it can be the perfect solution to help you start appreciating the people who are actually in front of you as opposed to making hundreds of ‘friends’ across the ether. While the majority of people here are either married or married with children, you should be able to find welcoming people regardless of your circumstances. You can expect warm but not terribly hot summers and chilly winters. You’re also close to the city of Bend, so you have the opportunity to have a more metropolitan experience if you so choose.
Terrebonne hosts the world-famous Smith Rock State Park, considered the cradle of American rock climbing. Miles of climbing routes tower above and the Crooked River splashes below, as soaring golden eagles share the skies with the dramatic peaks of the Cascade Range.
The affordable city of Terrebonne could just be your next perfect place if you’re looking within the central Oregon area.
La Pine
Located in the valley of the Little Deschutes River, LaPine offers prime opportunities for fishing, swimming, canoeing, and other leisure activities.
La Pine is a rapidly growing town, full of opportunity and promise. Neighbors and residents remain committed to supporting a strong sense of community in an adaptive environment. Attracted by practical land acquisition costs, many business owners and professionals have relocated to La Pine to expand and establish new ventures. Despite increasing growth and change, the city continues to maintain a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. You’ll find residents eager to participate in community events, outdoor recreation, family functions and volunteer opportunities.
Area homes reflect La Pine’s changing environment and rural charm. Many single family homes are accompanied with at least an acre of land for farming, ranching and future development. To satisfy its growing needs, newer neighborhoods offer modern homes on smaller, more manageable lots. Sprawling estates with custom luxury homes and equestrian facilities are also available.
