Prineville is a city located on the Crooked River in Crook County.
Founded in 1870, Prineville is the oldest city in Central Oregon. The city is home to Oregon’s oldest public structure, the Crook County Courthouse which was built in 1909. Visitors can appreciate the history as they stroll by the brick buildings that line the city’s main street.

The Ochoco National Forest and the Ochoco Mountains lie just east of Prineville and, along with the Prineville Reservoir, offer a variety of outdoor sports and activities.
Prineville is served by the Crook County School District. Crook County High School leads all high schools in the region with a graduation rate of 98% for the Class of 2021.

Surrounded by some of the area’s best angling, Prineville offers fishing on the Crooked River, known for its year-round trout population, and the Prineville and Ochoco reservoirs. For golf enthusiasts, find the public Meadow Lakes Golf Course right in town.
